Sounds of Sundance 2018: Ethan Gruska

Get to know the guy the LA Times calls “L.A.’s next great singer-songwriter.”

Describe your sound in three words.
Personal, Arctic, Super8 (not the motel).

What’s your favorite F-word?
Besides the obvious… fidelity.

Song you can never get out of your head?
“History Of My Life” by Blake Mills

Any pre-performance rituals?

Last thing you ordered at a drive-thru?
A cheeseburger animal style.

One film you want to see at the fest?

Elevator pitch us your idea for a film that would screen at SFF.
“I’m gonna take the stairs…”

One thing you’d like to change about your industry?
I wish more people cared about albums as a whole and weren’t as focused on singles. As much as I love great singles, there’s nothing like a beautiful complete piece…with or without hits.

One thing you’d never change about your industry?
The new and incredible options for discovering music.

What’s next for you?
More of the same… writing, producing, composing. Lots of music to be made in 2018. I’m stoked!

The 2018 Sundance ASCAP Music Café is located at the Rich Haines Gallery (751 Main Street, Park City, UT) and is open to all Festival credential holders (21 and older).

Ethan Gruska performs Saturday, January 20, at 4:15 p.m., and Sunday, January 21, at 3:30 p.m.
