Song Premiere: “99” by Elliot Moss
music

“’99’ is about facing the uncomfortable, dark corners in our relationships before we’re forced into them.”

The smooth, soulful vibe that the vocals exude on the new track by stream-millionaire Elliot Moss, combine with an ever-growing and textured electronic backdrop to produce the song “99.” The subtle and deep-flowing characteristics of Moss’s voice are pushed to the front by the minimalistic arrangement that bolsters the ominous and emotional dive the track takes. Starting off almost a capella, the track is produced in a way so that lyrics and tone are centered rather than swallowed up by gratuitous sounds. Moss’s navigation between wide space and abrupt dynamic changes make for an exciting sonic journey. On the meaning behind the song, Moss says, “Turn a blind eye enough times and you may find yourself unexpectedly at odds with someone you cherish. ’99’ is about facing the uncomfortable, dark corners in our relationships before we’re forced into them.”

Moss’s work has accumulated a large following that is sure to grow with the release of EP Boomerang, out April 28 on Sounds Expensive.
