Ever hear one of those canonical classic rock guitar solos and thought, “I wonder if that riff made the engineer laugh a little?” The dudes in Oil Boom crack up over that stuff all the time, and then they turn those jokes about Joe Perry hot lixx and Robert Plant blues-ball moans into songs. Solid approach. The Dallas four piece are giving us a glimpse of what to expect from their upcoming October 20th release Terribility and dropping the first single, “Earful”. As the first taste, “Earful” is a killer introduction to Oil Boom’s sound with it’s psych rock, fuzz tinged, party time licks. The guys have a good time making music and it shows in their songs, mainly their lyrics. Highlight lyric: “If you don’t watch your mouth, you’ll get an earful too”. Words to live by. Give the newest track a listen and then when you want to know more you can keep up with Oil Boom here.
“”Earful” about dealing with your own terrible decisions, set to an upbeat ’90s Britpop groove based on our idea of imaginary Blur contemporary might sound like, with which Blur fans will probably disagree! Bonus feature: the album version has a keyboard outro made on a ’90s-era hip-hop toy!” – Oil Boom
