Inhabiting a cinematic world inspired by early 60s girl groups, Deidre & the Dark craft nostalgic noir-pop, enhanced by modern stereophonics.

The kicks might be phatter, the instruments might be crisper, the frequencies separated and buffed, but the sultry heart of the matter remains authentically true to the raw, emotive spirit of Philly soul. Brooklyn-based lead singer Deidre Muro explains:

“We had just finished up a mini-tour of the northeast where we’d been listening to a lot of the Delfonics and Motown hits. This song actually came together in one impromptu late night session at the studio, inspired by other truly joyful songs from that era of classic pop music that are a ton of fun to sing.”

Muro’s love of classic R&B can hardly be denied as she saddles up to the horn-laden production, laying her breathy vocals over a sea of syrupy counter-harmonies. The perfectly timed, stripped down chorus is the cherry on top, showcasing the bands ability to internalize the past and provide something strikingly new for the next generation of blue-eyed soul lovers.

“One Night” is off Deidre & the Dark’s forthcoming new full-length self-titled album, due out early 2019. Listen below:
