Recap: Tori Amos at the Paramount Theater, Oakland
show recap

While Tori Amos may be on the tail end of her Native Invader tour she continues to surprise her fans night after night with varying set lists.

Even her diehards can’t guess what she’ll play next at any given show. During her Oakland show, it was a muted cover of The Police’s “Wrapped Around Your Finger” and an improved version of “Posse Bonus,” a ten year old song making its live debut. The latter was spontaneously added to the show in response to a fan’s very creative sign which he relentlessly held aloft throughout the evening. With such a deep back catalog (14 albums and endless b-sides and side projects) and the musical chops to play just about anyone’s other’s songs it is no surprise that Tori keeps it fresh not only for her followers but for herself. In an age of static set lists tied to carefully choreographed video content, it is refreshing to see an artist stretch their wings satisfying not only the audience but themselves in the process. Tori Amos has just a few stops before she wraps up the tour in Los Angeles on December 3rd.
