Singer-songer Subhi, known for her blend of Hindi folk and American pop, takes steps in a more emotionally intimate direction on latest single “Wake Me Up.”
Subhi’s sound on “Wake Me Up” is full and slightly alternative, effectively capturing the anxiety and hope many have felt in 2020. The track is dreamy yet moody.
Like many artists, Subhi took the odd events of this year and channeled that into her music.
“I wrote it right before quarantine happened,” Subhi said. “During that time, we were hearing news about coronavirus spreading across the world and how it was now in the US.”
Subhi said she had a trip to LA planned for around that time and took the utmost precaution while on the trip.
“’Wake Me Up’ is a song about that time, about the fear of being lonely, about hopelessness, helplessness and trying to find a way to remove the darkness from the world.”
