Premiere: Hayes Peebles Sails Smoothly on “Airways”
Hayes Peebles

Native New Yorker Hayes Peebles releases his latest single “Airways” tomorrow, October 26, 2017. The singer/songwriter has a classic, timeless sound, as if he’s experiencing New York in the 50s and 60s when crooners like Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin dominated the airwaves.

Inspired by traditional American songwriters and classic country, Peebles draws listeners in with thoughtful lyrics, warm baritone vocals, and playful trilling.

Peebles latest single “Airways” was written from an airport bar in Edinburgh while the singer was awaiting a flight home for Christmas. While reflecting on his travels over a few pints, the words started to come together, and a song was formed.

“Throughout [the song] there are specific references to going out in Denmark during a blizzard, or packing myself into this tiny Italian clown car to go to some beach outside of Rome with a bunch of people I’d never met, and then eventually being able to go home where there was also, in theory, all this warmth waiting for me” says Peebles.

“So in some ways the song was actually about getting drunk in this airport and reflecting on these experiences, but also the experiences themselves- just flipping through this journal and putting my finger on a page and realizing that all this day-to-day writing I had been doing sort of as a task was actually super valuable and brought me tons of joy and also had potential to become something much more interesting, like a song called “Airways” I suppose.”
