“Feel it Still,” the lead single off the new album Woodstock from Alaskan indie rockers Portugal. The Man has been sitting comfortably at the number one spot on the Alternative Radio charts for an impressive 14 weeks, and with good reason.
This low-key burner of a track bubbles with a righteous furor hidden just below the surface, only made clear through the imagery of the accompanying music video. Musically, Portugal. The Man build on their foundation of airy pop rock with a considerable dose of neo-soul.
In collaboration with LA-based electronic artist Gryffin, “Feel it Still” has been reimagined with this new remix. The tone here is noticeably more uplifting than the original, approaching the subject matter with a hope for the future rather than a bleak view of the present. Electronic beats and breakdowns replace the organic sounds of the original version to create a sound that is ethereal yet danceable. Where the original simmered with a controlled heat, this version builds and breaks with flowing waves of cathartic release. If “Feel it Still” bummed you out the first time around, give it another try with this new remix, set to release on September 29th.
