Mystic Braves Revive Vintage Rock on “Can’t Have Love”
music
song premiere

“Rock ’n’ roll is dead.”

We’ve all heard this a million times, as big EDM acts, R&B and Hip Hop collectively engulf everything in their path, seemingly making the rock band all but obsolete. But naysayers be damned, because Mystic Braves is here to prove that a guitar driven sound can thrive in even the most hostile of conditions.

The LA based band is set to release their fourth full-length record, The Great Unknown, later this month. It’s a deeply personal collection of psych-pop tracks, and single “Can’t Have Love” is no exception. The track leans heavy on vintage vocal harmonies and rhythms à la Zombies for a surf rock, distinctly Southern California sound. It’s no wonder, considering they did most of the songwriting in Topanga Canyon among other LA hoods. While the song swings towards uptempo, there’s something about singer Julian Ducatenzeiler’s voice that transcends the rock-pop quality and arrives somewhere deeper, almost melancholic but still energized. What the hell, just listen to it yourself.
