Emily expresses herself passionately and genuinely, and it shows through the nature of her music. Paired with an IG livestream, COLLiDE had the pleasure of chatting with Emily about her upcoming EP and what else she’s been up to! Check it out below:

How did growing up in California influence you sonically?

I think the California lifestyle is already very beachy so I’ve always wanted to make pop music that’s super upbeat. Just music that makes you feel good while you drive down the coast.

How has lockdown been for you / has it altered your outlook on your music or creativity?

I believe that it definitely has. During lockdown, I did a lot of soul searching and in general just matured more living on my own for awhile. My new music that I have coming out now seems like a huge step away from what I used to make. Not just a step away but a step forward into the artist I wanna become.

Tell me about your new EP coming out, Found!

My new EP coming out is like my baby haha. I’ve never been more excited about a project ever. It shows the real me on a deeper level.

Who have you been listening to recently? Do you feel like any of those artists helped inspire the music on your new EP?

I’ve always listened to a lot of Lauv. He’s one of my favorite artists on the entire planet. I wouldn’t say he helped inspire some of the songs on the EP but I’d say he’s definitely inspired me as a fellow artist.

Do you have a favorite song from the EP?

My favorite song is “Your Ex”. It’s just a cute song that I made about my girlfriend and her crazy ex that can’t get a clue.

Can you speak a little bit about TikTok and how the platform has altered your life and career?

TikTok has changed my life forever basically. It gave me the start to pursue what I really loved. It introduced me to people I can’t imagine living without and I’m forever grateful to TikTok for opening these doors.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?

If I could collaborate with anyone, it would be Lauv.

What’s a social / political cause that you are really passionate about?

I’m very passionate about the LGBTQ+ community and basically any cause relating to animals.
