Jared & The Mill’s “Soul In Mind” Will Make You Want to Call Your Mom
Jared & The Mill

Jared & The Mill are five best buds pursuing their passions while trying to be their best selves, and encouraging others to do the same.

Encapsulating this modus operandi is the stirring “Soul In Mind” the lead single off their upcoming new album. The glittering folk-rock ballad takes listeners on a journey through navigating life, relationships, and personal growth. “Split me up in two and keep the better side” sings lead vocalist and guitarist Jared Kolesar as he frets about living up to his own, and others, expectations. “I’m not as close as I should be / and I’m not as far as I’d like to be.”

The opening line especially hits home, literally, as Jared sings of calling his mom on the phone, coupled with memories of the place he grew up, and the ways in which we carry the souls of the ones we love with us wherever we go, for better or worse.

Jared and his band of brothers: banjo/mandolin player Michael Carter, guitarist Larry Gast III, bassist Chuck Morriss III and drummer Josh Morin, will have you feel all the feels with their energetic and heartfelt playing. The quintet recorded the new record in artist paradise Joshua Tree, with producer Ethan Allen (Ben Harper, Patty Griffin, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club) while “Soul In Mind” was mixed by Ryan Hewitt (Lumineers, Avett Brothers, Red Hot Chilli Peppers).

From where they recorded, to the songs they create, once can sense a unity and fortifying spirit that shines through in everything Jared & The Mill does.

“Our message is one of acceptance, in a way of acknowledging that we all have shit we regret, and we all have passions and opinions, and it’s up to all of us to filter through our flaws and our regrets to find ourselves. Don’t judge other people, do your best to have a good time in life, and care about everybody, like “everybody” everybody. Our music is about the shit we go through, and we hope our songs make you feel like you͛re not alone. We hope you come to a show, have a drink and dance with your friends.”
