Japanese Breakfast to Release Sable Soundtrack

For Michelle Zauner, AKA Japanese Breakfast, the low volume life of 2020 was merely a prelude to the creative boom of 2021, her most prolific year yet.  Having released her memoir, Crying in H Mart, which will soon be adapted for the screen, and her third studio album, Jubilee, in early June, it’s becoming clear that Zauner is starting to register on the culture’s consciousness.

Jubilee posits that the passage of time is an opportunity as opposed to a loss, a sentiment we all need to internalize following 2020.  We can look forward to a brighter future, and not just behind us to a darker past.  In fact, Zauner took advantage of the years leading up to the album’s release to broaden her own horizons as an artist, honing her music theory knowledge and studying the piano.  And it shows; Jubilee is authentically her own, featuring real stories and real emotions.  It gives listeners access to new layers of her artistry.

Now, Zauner is venturing even further into new creative territories; Sable, an open world adventure game developed by Shedworks and published by Raw Fury is slated to launch September 23 and will feature an original soundtrack from the artist.  It will be available for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.  In a further entry into the gaming world, a “Simlish” version of Zauner’s song “Be Sweet” will be featured in the trailer for the upcoming The Sims 4 Cottage Living expansion pack.

And it doesn’t end there.  Japanese Breakfast will return to stages in North America this summer and fall with featured performances from Mannequin Pussy, Luna Li, Spirit of the Beehive, and Portugal. The Man.  But Zauner always leaves us wanting more.  As 2022 approaches, we can only anticipate with excitement and curiosity what new territories will be encompassed by this artist’s expansive reach.
