Governors Ball Pick: VANT via London

The awesome festival-slash-party that is Governors Ball returns next weekend (June 2-4) to NYC. To prep you for the music to come, we’ve chosen under-the-radar acts worthy of your eardrums. Check back each day for a brand new act.

VANT are a product of our troubled times. The British punk rock band is best known for their politically charged, socially conscious music. They get it all out there at their live shows. When asked what fans can look forward to, singer Mattie Vant says, ” A lot of energy, and sarcastic, pessimistic remarks about humanity and the universe!”

They’re on a mostly European tour in support of DUMB BLOOD, but you can catch them here in the U.S. at Gov Ball and Lolla.

Singer Mattie Vant reps his lovely hometown of London with his top picks.

What’s your favorite record store? Flashback Records.

What was the last thing you bought there? Ty Segall – Ty Segall (2017)

Favorite brunch spot? Lele’s.

Best neighborhood? Stoke Newington.

Do you have a favorite spot to visit with out-of-towners? By the canal in the Hackney Wick area, Greenwich or Kew Gardens.

Best vintage and best boutique? Charity shops and fuck knows!

Describe your perfect Sunday, what would you do and where would you go?
If the weather is good go for a long walk, stop at a nice pub on the way home then either go out for food, make something delicious or if I can’t be arsed order something in!

Favorite place to end the night? My living room with a shot of whisky from my ever growing collection.

Favorite bartender and bar? What’s your drink? Terry Palarama when she worked in Birthdays, any cocktail she laid her hands on!

Why is your city better than anyone else’s? It isn’t but it is pretty incredible in its own right. The multiculturalism and diversity is unparalleled in Europe, which is pretty amazing.

VANT plays Governors Ball on Friday at 12:15 pm.
