Below, Evalyn shares her Holiday Gift Guide, featuring some of her favorite Venice based shops and makers. From friends, skaters, and music fans, to awkward family gatherings, she’s got everyone on your list covered.
Venice Beach, California native Evalyn has had quite the year. She released her debut EP Sandcastle and saw two songs go viral on Spotify: Louis The Child’s “Fire,” (over 28 million streams on Spotify) where she lent guest vocals, followed by her own debut single, “Filthy Rich.”
Evalyn has been “building on that fire” in her music, as she addresses the emotional rollercoaster and disconnect present in today’s tech-addicted culture. “We’re too concerned with likes and hearts. There’s something in the water,” she sings on “Drumpfed.” Referring to the constant staring at phones as a sickness that leaves her feeling alone. On “Rather Be Dead” she dives further into this loneliness, as she sings of a failing relationship. “Early morning, hear you creep in, losing my head, baby where have you been.” A vulnerability and frustration can be heard in Evalyn’s voice as she feels disappointed in others, while also holding herself accountable for her own actions and choices. This sentiment is echoed on single “Ride or Die” as she asks, “whatever happened to ride or die, baby?” as she reminisces about all the highs of a former relationship.
“The Sandcastle EP is a statement about my millennial peers and the angst that both unites and divides us” says Evalyn, who just released a re-worked, minimal iteration of the EP titled, Sandcastle (Stripped). The EP peels back the original’s production in favor of solo guitar, piano and strings, to showcase the rawness that comes through in Evalyn’s vocals and lyrics.
