chance the rapper

In honor of the 5th year anniversary of his groundbreaking Coloring Book mixtape and tour, Chance the Rapper has released the trailer for his much anticipated concert film, Magnificent Coloring World, following a teaser release in May. The footage documents a secret concert that the artist orchestrated and recorded for fans in Chicago immediately following his 2017 Grammy sweep.
Directed by Jake Shreier, the film contains exclusive footage of Chance on the big screen for the first time ever. And as the clips have been stowed away for four years, Magnificent Coloring World becomes just as much a time capsule as it is a film and all the more personal. The clips simulate the same intimate space that the rapper created with his fans in 2016 in Chicago.
And, staying true to his prerogative as an independent artist, Chance took the reins on much of this project. He took charge during the editing process and will self-distribute the film through his House of Kicks, his film and music production studio. Further, this is the first time an artist has ever independently distributed a film through AMC theaters, a huge feat in itself.
Magnificent Coloring World an extension of Chance’s concerted efforts to pivot in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2020, he developed a sequence of 11 virtual concerts and released his virtual holiday concert film Chi-Town Christmas on Youtube and Oculus. It’s safe to say that Chance the Rapper has accommodated our new normal and so much more. Coloring Book was an invaluable foundation; now, Chance is building a home. The project will be available for viewing at select AMC theaters on August 13th, but presale tickets will be available to eager fans on Friday, July 16th.
