Tolliver

Tolliver’s sparkling ThinBlackDuke EP, written and recorded with all-star production team The Architects (Miguel, Alicia Keys), is equal parts unbridled hedonism and morning-after regret, a conflicted party record that blurs the lines between soul, funk, R&B, and hip-hop as it grapples with sex and jealousy, money and betrayal, self-doubt and self-control. Tolliver, whose bisexual identity and appetite for debauchery are frequently at odds with his strict religious upbringing, writes with a keen observational eye and lacerating wit. His lyrics are raw and unfiltered, at times hilarious, but there’s a swift undercurrent of guilt that flows just beneath the surface.

AKBAR
"It's actually the only place I ever go...I do enjoy a Zebulon moment, perhaps a Senor Fish margherita on a hot day. But really, I'm reaching. I go to Akbar. I go for the dance floor, for the hot queers, for the jukebox, for the hot and kind bartenders, and because i can DRESS UP." - Tolliver

Elysian Park
"Elysian Park is where you can find me in daisy dukes walking my friend's beautiful pitbull, Larry. I love it a lot, there's a weird sign about horses somewhere on the trail, and I am obsessed with the CONCEPT of horses, though I have never actually touched one or seen one up close. I guess you could say they're like god, in that way." - Tolliver Nestled near Dodger's stadium, Elysian Park offers paths for walking and biking, as well as a great view of downtown.

Beleaf Cafe
"Beleaf Cafe is pretty sick. You know what? I just like eating junk, like I'm not even healthy at these places, I'm like, load me up baby. Load me up. I shouldnt judge myself, I've been working on judging myself less, those are my answers, and I don't care who knows!" - Tolliver

Bootleg Theater
"I love the Bootleg. Every show I've seen there had great sound. Sound is important for me to open my heart up to a venue. When it's good, I'm sold." - Alicia Blue "The Bootleg rocks and that's really the only correct answer. A great view and sound experience no matter where you are. I once hit on what I thought was a gay couple at the bar and they were like 'what's up, bro,' so I think I misread that one, but other than that, always a lovely time. Also the booker has impeccable taste. LA slaps pretty hard when it comes to music venues, though. Moroccan Lounge is another great one." - Tolliver Popular venue which pays host to indie bands, as well as theater, spoken-word, and poetry events.

Sonido Del Valle
" Sonido Del Valle is my favorite record store. They freakin rock, bruv. A very chil environment, incredible soul + funk selection. I bought three records the last time I was in (last week), my fave was Midnight Star's 'Headlines.' It was released on Sound of Los Angeles Records and I just love that they were so confident in naming themselves. That takes courage, I respect that." - Tolliver
