If Phoenix needed a response to California’s Ty Segall, Strange Lot more or less fills that void. With an aggressive rhythm section getting punk rockers in a frenzy, explorative guitar and synth strains and distorted vocal crooning give listeners plenty of room to phase out and forget about tomorrow. Originally the bedroom project of Dominic Mena, Strange Lot fully fleshed out with Tim Lormor helping out on drums and keyboard and bassist David Dennis in 2014. With an EP and two LPs dropped — most recently last month — this band’s presence in the Arizona psych-punk scene will surely grow in the coming years.
