Lean Year

Lean Year is the creative output of singer Emilie Rex and instrumentalist Rick Alverson, two RVA natives who have recently reconnected with their love of music to create moody, Americana-tinged alt-folk.  Rex left behind a career in academia to pursue her passion for music, while Alverson is returning to his old habits, having taken a ten-year hiatus from making music to direct feature films.  The result is an album that retells stories from the duo’s past, cast through a haze of smoldering listlessness.
