Lincoln, Nebraska-based synth artist John Freidel worked with a number of experimental bands (Universe Contest, Green Trees, Powerful Science) before unveiling his current solo project early in 2017. This new project is a series of cinematic synthesized trances inspired by the likes of electronic pioneers Tangerine Dream and John Carpenter’s film scores, and released exclusively on cassette. Freidel creates quite a full-bodied sound through the use of just a few synthesizers and drum machines, and while the vibe is unequivocally retro, these analogue vibrations sound surprisingly fresh amidst the modern musical landscape.
