Austin and Gary Clark Jr. go way back: Not only was he born and raised in the Texas capital, he is also one of its biggest musical exports, having jumpstarted his career at one of the city’s oldest and revered clubs, Antone’s. The late Clifford Antone was a mentor not only to Clark Jr., but to other guitar greats like Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimmie Vaughn.
With a legacy on his shoulders, and a guitar in his hand, Gary Clark Jr. has become one of the music industry’s biggest players, know for his smooth vocals, impressive guitar skills and high profile collaborations. His recent take to the Grammy stage is nothing new (he won best traditional R&B performance in 2013) but only helped cement his place as this generation’s king of the blues.
